Epic Party Folk Metal
Mourning Wood is a folk metal band from the Netherlands, born in 2022 and raised on beer, bad ideas and loud music. We mix danceable folk tunes with metal riffs, so every show turns into a party you definitely didn’t plan for but somehow turned out great!
Since 2022 we’ve been touring across Europe, playing festivals in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium and the UK, and sharing stages with bands like Alestorm, Red Rum, Fiddler’s Green and Windrose. Every year the crowds get bigger, the stories get wilder, and the hangovers get… well, stronger.
In September 2026, Mourning Wood released their debut full-length album, Rise & Shine. A nine-track concept album with one simple concept: party. From Behind Enemy Lines and Modern Day Viking to Seamen Shanty and Dwarven Dance, the album takes listeners on a journey where the destination is unclear and the moral of the story is questionable at best.

Rise & Shine is a concept album, and the concept is party! Across nine tracks, we take you on a journey where the destination is unclear and the moral of the story is questionable at best. Expect our trademark blend of epic folk metal and whatever Friso does.
We worked LONG and HARD alongside mix soundsmith Caleb Bingham to forge something we are incredibly proud of. Mastering was handled by the talented Mika Jussila of Finnvox Studios, well known for his work with Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Amorphis and many other bands we've been listening to for ages.
After months of writing, recording, mixing and mastering, Rise & Shine was finally unleashed upon the world on 18 September 2026.
