Epic Party Folk Metal
Mourning Wood is a folk metal band from the Netherlands, born in 2022 and raised on beer, bad ideas and loud music. We mix danceable folk tunes with metal riffs, so every show turns into a party you definitely didn’t plan for but somehow turned out great!
Since 2022 we’ve been touring across Europe, playing festivals in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium and the UK, and sharing stages with bands like Alestorm, Red Rum, Fiddler’s Green and Windrose. Every year the crowds get bigger, the stories get wilder, and the hangovers get… well, stronger.
So grab a drink, jump in the pit, and let’s make more questionable decisions together. Cheers!

We are incredibly excited to finally unveil something you all have been asking for at our shows. No, it is not shirtless Sonny (yet). Through a revolutionary technology called "Laser disc printing" we were able to infuse our party essence into a compact, sort of disk-shaped object which we will release upon the world on 18 September 2026.
Yes, you read that right—we are releasing an album! Over the last months we have worked LONG and HARD alongside master soundsmith Caleb Bingham to forge something we are very proud of. Mastering was done by the talented Mika Jussila of Finnvox Studios (well known for his work with Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Amorphis and many other bands we've been listening to for ages). Now, after a long wait, it's time to make this baby Rise & Shine.
Rise & Shine is a concept album, and the concept is party! Across nine tracks we'll take you on a journey where the destination is unclear and the moral of the story is questionable at best. Expect our trademark blend of epic folk metal and whatever Friso does.
